Danielle couldn’t make tonight’s meting.&nbsp;&nbsp; I am part of immigration group as well.&nbsp; What kind of accountability or support can we offer when something like that happens? They were asking for some kind of acknowledgement. What is the relationship with this group and future events?<br /> <br /> Q: (Regarding incident at immigration forum) Did they identify as a working group or as individuals? They didn’t identify as a specific working group. “It’s time for the march, we’re organizing people and this is how we do it here?”<br /> <br /> Brad: Have become increasingly aware of a situation with homeless people and evicting them as the source of the problem. I don’t have a tent, but homeless and work. When people learn that I am homeless it’s negative – especially with safety and logistics.&nbsp; (I’d like to) start a Homeless or Formerly Homeless Council and have a person on each Working Group. They have the need for sensitivity to deal with it. I’ve gone from shelter to shelter and told to go to OB, yet there are no tents. Cops are telling homeless folks to go to OB. &nbsp;Each group who has someone who has been or is homeless, have them work with folks who are being evicted rather than have safety or logistics do it alone. Safety and logistics don’t know how to deal with homeless folks and what they have to go through to go from shelter to shelter.<br /> <br /> People aren’t being targeted for being homeless, but for distribution of substances, not contributing positively to space, drug or alcohol use.<br /> <br /> There is someone on safety who was formerly homeless and who is NOT sympathetic to homeless. It’s not enough to have had the experience. It happens with other groups/experiences. May want to have allies as well - anyone who understands the issues, who has background in the issues, who can help rather than hinder the problem.<br /> <br /> A designation or description of homeless for reason to be welcome at OB or camp feels oppressive. Anyone who is not contributing to the environment and who is contributing to making this a not…whoever they are, need to be asked to leave.&nbsp; Important for us to reframe this….<br /> <br /> Right now there is a stigma associated with being homeless. You wouldn’t know that I am homeless if you look at me you probably can’t tell. One of the hardest things is to effectively deal with anti-oppression work and having more tools. How can we create a group that will represent various immigrant communities? One suggestion: reaching out to organizers of Occupy China Town as well as the community in China Town. China Town is extremely close to the Occupy site and at this time meeting attendees saw little outreach being done to the immigrant communities in China Town.</span><br /> <br /> <span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: ScalaSansLF;">Discussion surrounding Ocupemos El Barrio and the importance of the space being created to discuss particular concerns of immigrant communities in Boston.</span><br /> <br /> <span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: ScalaSansLF;">Discussion of how we want to structure future meetings and how weekday meetings may be more convenient. There was also a discussion regarding the reality that certain groups are understaffed and therefore may not have time to commit to weekly meetings. We proposed that we try to meet at least every 2 weeks and an email would go out to try to figure out what day of the week is best for everyone. There was an initial discussion that Tuesdays and Wednesdays were not convenient for some that had attended the meeting. There have already been emergency meetings, press&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: ScalaSansLF; ">conferences, community forums (MIRA and governor’s office). Secure Communities is still&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: ScalaSansLF; ">operating in the city of Boston.</span><br /> <br /> <span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: ScalaSansLF; ">Proposal to Occupy City Hall, this would be a symbolic occupation and would not ask people&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: ScalaSansLF; ">to sit in the Mayor’s&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: ScalaSansLF; ">office or to get arrested. Discussion of possibly having a teach-in (which would hopefully be done by Centro Presente/Just Communities Campaign and other Immigrant Rights Groups), a march that would lead to City Hall and then an Occupy City Hall action.</span><br /> <br /> <span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: ScalaSansLF; ">Discussion of actions that can also be taken against E-Verify.</span><br /> <br /> <span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: ScalaSansLF; ">E-Verify will allow employers to verify if an employee is authorized to work. There are currently&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: ScalaSansLF; ">“72&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: ScalaSansLF; ">million” database errors which potentially could cause problems for all workers. Discussion of how taking action against E-Verify&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: ScalaSansLF; ">might be an “easier-sell” as it affects all&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: ScalaSansLF; ">workers.</span><br /> <br /> <span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: ScalaSansLF; ">Discussion from members of the group that Secure Communities also affects all of our communities and is an important campaign to take action against. Discussion of Secure communities creating unsafe communities as community members are afraid to seek&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: ScalaSansLF; ">assistance from law enforcement. Secure Communities creates fear to “drive all wages down.”</span><br /> </div></div></div></div><div class="page" title="Page 3"><div class="section"><div class="layoutArea"><div class="column"><br /> <span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: ScalaSansLF; ">Discussion of the appreciation of the Occupy movement as it offers us all an opportunity to have these conversations.</span><br /> <br /> <span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: ScalaSansLF; ">Discussion regarding how the immigrant movement is divided. How can we create a group that will represent various immigrant communities? One suggestion: reaching out to organizers of Occupy China Town as well as the community in China Town. China Town is extremely close to the Occupy site and at this time meeting attendees saw little outreach being done to the immigrant communities in China Town.</span><br /> <br /> <span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: ScalaSansLF; ">Discussion surrounding Ocupemos El Barrio and the importance of the space being created to discuss particular concerns of immigrant communities in Boston.</span><br /> <br /> <span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: ScalaSansLF; ">Discussion of how we want to structure future meetings and how weekday meetings may be more convenient. There was also a discussion regarding the reality that certain groups are understaffed and therefore may not have time to commit to weekly meetings. We proposed that we try to meet at least every 2 weeks and an email would go out to try to figure out what day of the week is best for everyone. There was an initial discussion that Tuesdays and Wednesdays were not convenient for some that had attended the meeting. In addition, others expressed that it depended on their schedule for the particular week being proposed.</span><br /> <br /> <span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: ScalaSansLF; ">Final Thoughts:</span><br /> <br /> <span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: ScalaSansLF; ">Meet in two weeks, email anti-oppression group about platform to discuss discriminatory actions taken at Forum, email anti-oppression and labor outreach about potential collaboration for a potential Occupy City Hall or similar action.</span><br /> <br /> <span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: ScalaSansLF; ">Kendra offered space at Harvard for future meetings. Discussion of possibly having a teach-in (which would hopefully be done by Centro Presente/Just Communities Campaign and other Immigrant Rights Groups), a march that would lead to City Hall and then an Occupy City Hall action.</span><br /> <br /> <span style="font-size: 12.000000pt; font-family: 'ScalaSansLF'">Discussion of actions that can also be taken against E-Verify.</span><br /> <br /> <span style="font-size: 12.000000pt; font-family: 'ScalaSansLF'">E-Verify will allow employers to verify if an employee is authorized to work. There are currently </span><span style="font-size: 12.000000pt; font-family: 'ScalaSansLF'">“72 </span><span style="font-size: 12.000000pt; font-family: 'ScalaSansLF'">million” database errors which potentially could cause problems for all workers. Discussion of Secure communities creating unsafe communities as community members are afraid to seek </span><span style="font-size: 12.000000pt; font-family: 'ScalaSansLF'">assistance from law enforcement. How can we create a group that will represent various immigrant communities? One suggestion: reaching out to organizers of Occupy China Town as well as the community in China Town. China Town is extremely close to the Occupy site and at this time meeting attendees saw little outreach being done to the immigrant communities in China Town.</span><br /> <br /> <span style="font-size: 12.000000pt; font-family: 'ScalaSansLF'">Discussion surrounding Ocupemos El Barrio and the importance of the space being created to discuss particular concerns of immigrant communities in Boston.</span><br /> <br /> <span style="font-size: 12.000000pt; font-family: 'ScalaSansLF'">Discussion of how we want to structure future meetings and how weekday meetings may be more convenient. There was also a discussion regarding the reality that certain groups are understaffed and therefore may not have time to commit to weekly meetings. We proposed that we try to meet at least every 2 weeks and an email would go out to try to figure out what day of the week is best for everyone. There was an initial discussion that Tuesdays and Wednesdays were not convenient for some that had attended the meeting.
