			I like the above-the-line portion because establishing self-government with equal political power for all is an agenda that we can really get the 99% behind! It also recognizes that the many ills affecting our society are the result of the corruption of government (and other institutions) by a tiny fraction of the people.

			I share the concerns that some have voiced about claiming this movement is specifically _about_ the environment, or ending the wars, or any other policy area. I see those as things that a legitimate, responsive government would take care of by resolving differences of opinion in a democratic way, and I don't want to invite those differences of opinion to sabotage our attempt to build consensus support for the things the 99% really can agree on.

			(I would edit a bit for word choice and punctuation - is the intention that people just go ahead and do that on the main page?)

			Statement of PurposeWe the people who have occupied Dewey Square, under the name Occupy Boston, have done so in order to maintain a place, where all voices are welcome for the open discussion of ideas, grievances, and potential solutions to the problems apparent in our society. We are and will be holding general assemblies where proposals may be brought to the group as a whole, to be consented to. We have and will continue to occupy this space for the purpose of DEMOCRACY.

			Statement of OccupationToday the United States is confronted by a toxic mix of financial, social, and environmental catastrophes that demand a thorough and immediate solution. The common root of these disasters is the domination of our social, economic, and political lives by the interests of a financially prosperous minority. The actions of this 1% threaten our lives, the lives of all the Earth’s creatures, our livelihoods, our liberty, our shared humanity, and our common future.

			In response, we, the General Assembly of Occupy Boston have abandoned usual democratic channels and chosen instead direct democracy.
			The corrupt order amidst which we live demands a profound collective response. Occupy Boston is that response.
			Because, the problems of economic inequality, unemployment, and crushing debt, are all symptomatic of the larger corrupting influence money has had on our political and social lives,
			Because, this influence has impeded progress toward a more just and sustainable society, has perpetuated crisis at home, war abroad and perverts democratic action,
			Because, the pursuit of the elites has had an even more devastating effect on the more vulnerable and less empowered members of our community as well as on the ecosystems upon which our species depends,
			Because, this financial minority also own or control, directly or indirectly, the media and legal apparatus: we have retaken the commons and resurrected direct democracy.


			Be it resolved that we, the General Assembly of Occupy Boston, acting in solidarity with occupations across America and with peoples' movements worldwide, do hereby declare our opposition to all systems of power that function to maintain oppressive and undemocratic systems. We declare that a better world is possible, and that it is our right and responsibility to begin creating it.

			Mission Statement

			Our mission is to give birth to a just and compassionate body politic that will tread lightly upon the Earth. Our mission will be accomplished when these goals are met:

			1. The US has a sustainable peace time economy.
			2. The voices of the 99% are heard and acted upon.
			3. All the Earth’s ecosystems are healthy.
			4. In allocating resources, the US government priorities the needs of the environment and the 99% who are not wealthy.

			The Strategies, Proposals and Positions Working Group asks the GA and all concerned persons to put forth objectives, methods, strategies and tactics which will accomplish goals 1-4. These are our suggestions:

			Strategy: we ask that all elected officials pledge to support these objectives and methods:

			Towards a sustainable peace time economy

			1. To end the current war
			2. To not engage in war.
			3. To direct government spending away from the military and towards social programs.

			Towards a more horizontal democracy

			4. To support the end of institutionalized racism, sexism, homophobia and attacks on immigrants.
			5. To facilitate the creation of a new tax code, written from scratch, that supports our goals
			6. To convene a Constitutional Convention to implement Proportional Representation
			7. To Crowd Source Public Policy

			Towards health for all our ecosystems:

			8. To implement an US Trusteeship of the Commons

			Prioritization of the needs of the 99% and the environment:

			9. The immediate creation of a National Single Payer Non-Profit Healthcare System
			10. The End of Corporate Personhood.
			11. The implementation of a “cradle to grave” social safety net.
			12. To end the assault on workers' rights and repeal of all anti-union laws.
			13. To pass the Obama jobs bill.
			14. To extend the public education system through all levels.
			15. To make restitution for damages to the 99% and the environment.

			These are not methods, strategies or tactics. I don't consider them useful objectives, either, because none of them is achievable except for #10 & 13. Again, I think Occupy Boston would lose support by proposing these kinds of sophomoric statements. We're better off digging into a small number of actual policy priorities. -pcovery

			These 17 objectives and methods that would help us achieve goals 1-4; were ditched as too specific and divisive. I disagreed. Remember this goes to external community.

			Please edit the line with the phrase "democratic channels", as we've yet to have a democracy in the United States. A democracy would have all human people treated equally and we've never had that. We've always had a feudal lord system wherein we determined who was in the lording class by wealth and those wealthy convinced a huge subset of the subservient class to support them by creating the illusion that we could be one of them if we had the right skin color.
