Strengths/Weaknesses/Opportunities/Threats = SWOT Analysis

The purpose of this SWOT Analysis is to gather a this group=s wisdom, whomever is here, about the groups perceptions as to the strengths, weaknesses (which includes concerns or perceived lacks) Opportunities (positive possibilities) and Threats (what might interfere with positive possibilities of and for Occupy Boston. Please help by sharing your wisdom & knowledge & experience.

Strengths:

Hope Resilience Energy/dedication Attention/international mindset Consensus process/ownership Truth/facts on our side/individual empowerment Connection among orgs Agility Risk takers Commonality of issues Social media expertise Ability to get press Organic/bubbling up/rather than central top down control 99% has massive numbers Creativity Unlikely allies Flexibility Depth of knowledge (collectively) Diversity of participants

Weaknesses:

Too many ideas Inability to pull together Problems w/transparency and accountability Lack of unified vision & goals Internal conflict Lack of nonviolent nonpolitical skills Misunderstanding of blocking Replication of oppressive systems Egos/need to be heroes/Macho Bull No place (no home base) Problems connecting and winning diverse support Uninformed public/apathy of public Lack of trust of one another Paranoia Lack of inclusion of the concerns and efforts of marginalized groups Lack of anti-oppression framework Individuals and the movement spreading itself/themselves too thin Press is focused on pranks and marches, no on policy work Ignorance of tools/skills/lack of internet access by some activists

Threats: Co-optation

Informal leaders/no accountability/manipulation of process Factionalism Getting stuck in trivia Lack of cohesion Lack of organized systems Failure to demonstrate we can/will/are trying to take care of our own people Loss of legitimacy w/our own movement Compartmentalization of issues/failure to interconnect Use of negative caricatures to weaken this movement Infiltration by undercover police/provocateurs In fighting

Opportunities: [This is where the meeting ended and reconvened at Gunner's because E5 was being closed] See those notes at the main page: http://wiki.occupyboston.org/wiki/Road_Map_Planning_Working_Group

Also note that Jacob submitted this post-publishing of these notes:

under threats, "Oppression" and in weaknesses "Lack of inclusion of the concerns and efforts of marginalized groups" was actually"Lack of inclusion of the concerns and efforts of marginalized groups as central to the movement"
