Meeting 4 notes (from 10/11/11)

Hello again!

on Friday, the general assembly is having an anti-oppression forum. apologies for lack of details, but there is a planning meeting happening Thursday at 6pm I hear.

my proposal is to meet on Friday at 5:30pm in the queer and trans tent, K11, and then head together to the general assembly. Please try to be there on time!

a few of us met briefly at 5:30pm to discuss the structure of a National Coming Out Day speak out that happened from 6-7pm on the mic by the main stage.

we hung a sassy pink banner with a multi-colored boa in front of the tent - hope you like it!

here's what folks sought to accomplish through the speakout:

  • forum for lgbt folks at the occupation
  • importance of allies
  • coming out for equality and justice
  • raising issues that matter to people
  • educating ourselves

some themes:

  • what does "equality" mean?
  • recognize that since Stonewall, has held a variety of meanings, and currently means different things to different people
  • grassroots organizing
  • economic justice

Next meeting is scheduled for Friday, 10/14/11: cancelled due to rain
