Workers should be given seats on the boards of directors

The board can increasingly be a forum for industrial relations and shop-floor issues, on which worker directors can give expert opinions, and made management more cautious about employee-sensitive issues such as layoffs and plant closures. Worker representation can also increase the flow of information among the board, unions, and employees, helping both management and labor better understand each other and reduce conflicts. Employee representation tends to be more effective in cases where the worker directors are directly elected by the workers and accepted as legitimate participants on the board.
