Description
The Women's Caucus is a forum for those who identify as women to: discuss issues of gender, promote participation of those who identify as women in working groups, discussion, and other leadership roles, maintain the safety of those who identify as women within the camp and movement, and provide resources to improve the retention of those who identify as women. Our meetings are open to anyone who identifies as a woman. You do not need to be camped at Occupy Boston to attend meetings.
Meetings
Meetings are every Tuesday 5:30 - 7 and every Saturday 3:30 - 5. Come to a meeting to see what we're about! Tuesday meetings are onsite at the Women's Resource Tent, the large orange tent near the Gandhi statue. The entrance is on the Purchase St./Surface Road side of Dewey Square (not the South Station/Atlantic Ave. side). If the group is too large to meet in the tent we will migrate to the food court at South Station. Please note that we must purchase from the vendors there (even just a beverage) if we wish to meet there undisturbed. Saturday meetings will be at a nearby, indoor location to be determined. In case of unseasonably mild weather we may meet at the Rose Kennedy Greenway (the park with the sculptures) directly across the street from Dewey Square. We will always give notice and leave signs (and tell the Info Desk) about our meeting locations.
Membership
At this time only those who identify as women can attend our meetings and join our very active mailing list. We also have a Facebook group which is, again, open to members who identify as women. Please note that although only members can post to that group, anyone can read the posts. Also note that anyone can edit this (or any other) wiki page. If you read something odd here, that's probably why.
Allies
If you do not identify as a woman you can still be a good ally to our group and to women in general. Actively advocate in mixed groups and among other men for women's safety in the encampment (and beyond), more prominent roles for women in the movement (and beyond) and regularly challenge sexist language and assumptions wherever you hear them.
